Professional Care.

Shafea is a Death Doula graduate from the IAP Career College.

There are many names for Death Doulas including death midwives, end-of-life coaches/doulas, spirit midwives, to name some of the more common titles. These titles cover the professionals who essentially help the dying to transition out of this lifetime. Each doula has their own services they provide and it is as unique as the individual. These services may include creating/sitting vigil, helping the dying to put their affairs in order, legacy work, companionship, bucket list activities, confronting their feelings and fears. Some death doulas offer services post mortem, including bathing and dressing, planning/executing a home funeral, or helping the family with post-mortem burial (or non-burial) options.

Doulas help to bridge the gap between the medical world and our typical societal post-mortem ritual of funeral home traditions. There is a void in our American culture when it comes to honoring the dying, and doulas are upholding the sacredness of honoring those individuals.

Below you will find a list of services provided and descriptions. Please contact Shafea with any questions you may have.

Services offered

  • Legacy Journaling

For people who want to leave behind a well accounted story of their experiences. This can be used to give as a momento to loved ones, help keep family lines accounted for, or to help release trauma from past experiences to ease the person’s transition. This is also offered for people who are thriving, but maybe want future generations of their family to have a well documented story of their time or a particular experience. Weekly sessions, 1-2 hour sessions @ $30/hr. Cost includes travel expenses for client up to 20 miles distance from Peekskill, NY.

  • Weekly Companionship

This service is provided for sick clients, who are often bed or chair bound. Beatrice has experience with both verbal and non-verbal clients. Companionship may include activities such as reading, writing, painting, listening to music, crochet, talking/listening, silent presence, meditation, and going through old photographs. Weekly sessions, 1 hour sessions @ $30/hr. Cost includes travel expenses up to 20 miles distance from Peekskill, NY.

  • Death Bed Arrangements

Often, the first step before sitting vigil is arranging the death bed. This can be an emotionally challenging task for the friends and family to complete at the time it is needed. I provide some useful tools to help make the transitional space as intimate and personal as possible for the client and their loved ones. This may be something the transitioning person may want to be included in prior to losing cognitive function. This service includes a consultation appointment, an arranging appointment, and a dismantling appointment where Beatrice comes to remove props etc that were used. Base rate $100 with add-ons.
