What an Alchemy Consult Looks Like

Let’s talk about the initial consultation! It’s quite simple really. Once you see how everything connects, the pieces fall into place on their own.

I like to look at the big picture first. What do you want your tattoo to embody? What is the focus? It can be anything really; lately, I’ve been noticing a theme of a rather grand view from my clients. What I mean by this is they’ve been wanting to find a way to connect to the larger picture of their life. Some people recognize their life’s purpose as a career. I sometimes do. Our careers, if we are fortunate enough, are what we expend most of our energy and time creating or putting out into the world. Sometimes, when people feel that they lack meaning in their career, this alchemical process can help them find a sense of purpose.

Please don’t confuse this with value. I believe our sense of self-worth should not be intrinsically tied to our perceived purposes.

So that’s just one example of what information you may want to come in with. Another common reason people choose the alchemical route is to create a stronger connection with someone who has passed away. Crossroads of major life changes or transitional periods are also practical for this system.

Next, we discuss areas of the body you’re interested in getting the tattoo. I will offer a few suggested spots based on the subtle emotional energies of different parts of the body as well as major energy channels, or chakras.

Next, we talk about what other medicine you’d like in the piece. You can choose correspondences of flora and fauna, numerology, tarot, elements, and color.

Once we’ve set up the main ingredients, we will go over the details just like a regular good old-fashioned tattoo consultation. We will go over important information like sizing, composition, booking sessions, stylizing, and budgeting. If it’s your first tattoo I will go over what to expect the day of the appointment.

After that, you’ll receive an Alchemy Love Letter via email, which will give you a full breakdown of the entire design, along with a rough draft image. You will receive this sometime before the tattoo appointment, based on my workload and how involved your design is. The larger and more complex a design is, the more time I like to leave for us to be able to discuss any changes you’d like made before a final draft is created for stenciling your tattoo.

If you’ve found this blog helpful, stick around for more posts! As I’ll be making comprehensive journals here of parts of the actual magick that happens behind the scenes.
